While drafting a comment or generating a summary the model can call tools to fetch more data. These tools are internal: they exist only inside Redmine, are read-only and run with the rights of the user who started the request. They are different from the MCP tools that external clients use. The progress of each lookup is shown in the Agent window.

web_read |
PRO | the instructions contain a URL | reads that page and its subpages (links are returned), up to 2 MB |
Examples of what to write in the Notes field of the Agent window: "use the related issue #41362 to write a detailed description", "find the issue about PDF export", "use the wiki of project support".
Limits and safety
- Up to 12 lookups per request; the next one fails the request with "Too many lookups".
web_readreads only the given URL prefix, does not follow redirects outside it, and refuses private and loopback addresses (no access to your internal network). Timeouts are 5 and 10 seconds.- Hidden issues and projects return
not_foundand are not revealed by search. - Private notes are flagged and are not copied into a public text unless you ask.
- Everything a tool returns is data: instructions found in an issue, a wiki page or a web page do not change the behavior of the model.
- The current issue is already in the context, so reading it again returns
already_in_context. - Shared summaries get no tools (see AI summaries).
Tools of other plugins
Plugins register their own tools. With CRM installed the AI can search contacts and deals, with Helpdesk it reads the ticket of an issue; they use the same limit and the same permission checks.
