Redmine 7 Docker compose plugin uninstallation on Linux Ubuntu 26.04

This guide will show you in in detail how to completely remove a plugin from Redmine 7 Docker Container. The things will happen on Ubuntu Linux 26.04 OS.

1. Show Docker Container name

The first command that we have to execute is to show the name of your Docker Redmine 7 Container. It is required because every command until the end of the process is going to include the name.

sudo docker ps

In our example case the name is dimitar_container.

In your case you should replace dimitar_container with your your docker container name.

2. Listing the plugins

Please list the available plugins to see the one that we are about to uninstall.

sudo docker exec -it dimitar_container ls -l plugins/

3. Downgrade the database

This is the most important command of the full guide. It will downgrade your database in relation to the plugin that you are removing. So it will completely remove the tables of this plugin in your database.

sudo docker exec -it -e RAILS_ENV=production dimitar_container bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate NAME=your_plugin_name VERSION=0

On your_plugin_name put your plugin's name. For example it could be our Checklists and in situation will be redmine_checklists. So the command will have this look:

sudo docker exec -it -e RAILS_ENV=production dimitar_container bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate NAME=redmine_checklists VERSION=0

4. Delete plugin folder

The next step that we need to do is to delete the plugin folder itself. It is left in the list of plugins and files. It happens via this command:

sudo docker exec -it dimitar_container rm -rf plugins/your_plugin_name

Here again replace the your_plugin_name with your plugin's name. If we continue use the Checklists example, the command will look like this:

sudo docker exec -it dimitar_container rm -rf plugins/redmine_checklists

5. List again

And now to double-check and see if everything is good, we list again the plugins and make sure the one we are uninstalling is truly gone.

6. Cache clear

Also, to be sure that everything will be gone indeed, just clear the cache as well:

sudo docker exec -it -e RAILS_ENV=production dimitar_container bundle exec rake tmp:cache:clear

7. Restart

The last thing that is needed is just restarting your Docker Container.

sudo docker restart dimitar_container

8. Plugin is gone

Please check if the plugin is gone via just going to your Redmine webpage and refreshing it.

If no further changes are made, the default location is http://127.0.0.1:8080/admin/info
