Getting started with Planner

Planner is an editable Gantt chart for Redmine. You move bars, resize them, create dependencies and change estimates in a shared Draft. Nothing touches your issues until somebody reviews the changes and presses Apply. This makes it safe to plan, discuss and change your mind.

Set up in four steps

  1. Install the plugin and restart Redmine.
  2. Enable the Planner module in the project and give roles the permissions View planner and Edit planner draft.
  3. Open the project and select Planner in the project menu (the tab is next to Gantt). The global Planner link in the top menu shows issues of all projects you can see.
  4. Drag a bar. It turns yellow: this is the first Draft change. Select Review changes, then Apply selected.

Core ideas in one minute

  • Chart. The task table on the left and the timeline with bars on the right. It is built on a normal issue query, so filters and saved queries work as on the issues list.
  • Draft. Proposed dates, estimates, assignees and dependencies. Yellow bars are Draft. The Draft is stored on the server and is the same for everyone who may plan the issue, so two planners see each other's proposals.
  • Review and Apply. A table of every change with old and new values, conflicts and warnings. You choose the rows and apply them in one transaction.
  • Working days. All calculations skip the non-working days of your Redmine: how Planner counts dates.
